Ayre Acoustics KX-5 Twenty Preamplifier
The KX-5 Twenty Preamplifier is broadly acclaimed as one of the finest preamplifiers available. As with all Ayre products, this is a zero feedback, fully discrete design. Following the architecture of Ayre’s revolutionary KX-R, the KX-5 Twenty employs Ayre’s Variable Gain Transimpedance volume control. Rather than attenuating the audio signal to varying degrees using a resistor in the signal path, as is the case in almost all other preamps, the VGT alters the preamplifier’s gain to varying degrees. This puts fewer elements into the signal path and maintains higher SNR at all listening levels.
The unit on offer has been meticulously maintained in a smoke-free home. The unit was last serviced at the factory within the last 6 months, at which time the VGT mechanism was fully inspected, all contacts were cleaned, and the device was thoroughly tested to ensure performance was confirmed to be at factory specifications. The remote control (never used), manual, and all original packaging will be included.
Includes Ayre’s custom RS-232 to AyreLink interface box. This unit permits control of the unit via a computer or a home control system, such as Control4. A free Roon plugin is available users who wish to use the interface to control KX-5 volume through the Roon interface.
